DESCRIPTION:
Felanitx doesn't only consist in the town of Felanitx and the other villages, we can also find several more or less dense clusters of houses around a centre with a school and the chapel, wearing the name of the property about which it was founded. On this route we will discover some of those hidden places we reach on quiet and partially not asphalted by-roads.
DIFFICULTY: Easy, since we chose the roads with less difficulties. The excursion is also easy to do with children, you can split it in several parts or make it shorter if time or strength would require, as on each road that joins the town of Felanitx with the other villages you can return there.
The only difficulty could be in missing the route, so follow the instructions carefully.
WAY DESCRIPTION:
We start at the the palm-tree square in Felanitx and set off in the direction to Manacor and Portocolom. At the second roundabout we turn in the direction to Son Prohens..
We always remain on the main-road. Soon we reach a recently restored well with a recreation area, it's the spring of Son Prohens. Somewhat further, we already see the sign Son Prohens and riding on we come to a fork, where we drive to the right and reach the school of the little village.
We drive back again in the direction to Felanitx, on the same way we came. Approximately 100 meters after the well of Son Prohens we turn to the right on an asphalted way that leads us to the road from Felanitx to Manacor. When crossing it we must pay close attention to the traffic. Now, we take the way Camà de Son Nadal and ride on for approximately 1.300 meters. Then we turn right to Son Nadal Vell. After a few meters we come to a fork where we actually had to turn right. However, it's worthwhile to take a few meters to the left in order to see one of the most hidden little churches of our township, the chapel of Can Ros, dedicated to Sant Joan. The façade is worth while seeing, and at the feet of the entrance columns we find the year of building engraved: 1792.
We return to where we've left the route, and go on up the hill which finishes just where the asphalt does. Arriving there we turn to the left and ride on, on a long straight way between vineyards which represents the borderline between the townships of Felanitx and Manacor. We see landmarks that remind us of it, some of them prism-shaped stones with the coat of arms of Felanitx engraved on one side and that of Manacor on the other. Shortly before the end of the straight way we come past a cattle-farming at our right, then turn left and always keep on to the maintrack without paying any attention to the byways. The houses of Albocà sser are the next stop then, we've already been watching them for some time.
As soon as we arrive to the asphalted road, our route leads us to the left, even if it is recommendable to cross the road and have a look at the houses of Albocà sser. The church attracts our attention, it's strange that it's situated in a building apart, away from the estate.
We carry on our route, by now already passing between almond-trees and fig-trees, and after one kilometer we reach the road from Felanitx to Petra. We follow it to the left until we reach the Lledoner crossing. Then we follow the sign of the Camà des Rafal for three kilometers until we come to the houses of Son Valls, now restored and dedicated to tourism. Taking to the right on that road we reach the school, the church and the "teleleclub" of Son Valls. Here we turn to the left and at the end to the right, following the asphalt however it stops soon. We drive on on the track to the left, keeping on the main direction; soon it becomes asphalted again. Then we reach a stop-sign where we turn to the left. We ride on a few kilometers and come to the road from Felanitx to Porreres. Turning to the right we follow it, very carefully because of the traffic. The lateral dry stone-walls and entrances are remarkable for probably being made of the best worked and preserved stone in the area.
After approximately 1,2 km, in a very unclear curve, we see the road to Son Mesquida which we take to the left, being very careful when crossing the road. Shortly afterwards we drive past the "Pou Celat" and the talaiotic settlement with the same name. Then we reach Son Mesquida where a church and the school show us the meeting-place of the inhabitants of the houses scattered in the surroundings.
Without any difficulty to keep the direction we return to Felanitx, past a restored well and an old railroad-stop.
DURATION AND DISTANCE :
It refers to real quick driving. With rests and lunch-time, you have to calculate much more time.
