 | DESCRIPTION: The excursion can also be classified as a walk and it leads us to the township-area of Manacor. With nice weather you can complete the way to as well as the way back with a bath in Cala Murada and s'Algar. Beautiful vegetation and bird-twitter entertain and accompany us on the whole way. Splendid views on the coast and the mountains invite us to have many interesting breaks.
DIFFICULTY: on foot, easy; by bicycle you'd better choose a mountain-bike and have a good sense of balance. Even if the whole route doesn't show any difficulties, the way surface is quite bumpy.
WAY DESCRIPTION: We start at the anchor we find at the entrance of Portocolom, coming from Felanitx. A street sign shows to the "far" (lighthouse) and we follow it...
Shortly afterwards the street goes uphill. When it turns downward again, we pass by a small garden-zone on the left hand side. After that we follow the street turning and go along the sea at our right, the so-called Rivetó. So the sea and some boats lie at our right hand side, and at the first right turn of the asphalted street we see a track that leads to the left, the way to s'Algar which we take, along a stone-wall at our left.
Arriving to s'Algar we have to keep on to the wall, and already at the sea-side we see a small iron gate, pass through and continue on the left path. Shortly after it we reach a fork where we take to the right. At the second fork, the path to the right would lead us to the Cova des Ases, but we won't go there today since that would complicate our route.
We see a limekiln on the left which until 50 years ago was still used to obtain lime by cooking stones. Immediately after it, at another fork, we turn to the right, follow along a stone wall at our left and come to a stone hut, built close to the wall, that serves as a shelter for people and animals. At the next fork we turn to the right again where the way leads us to a cliff with a diving-place. The path now becomes narrower and we can follow it without any difficulties, jumping another wall, until we finally reach an asphalted road. Already in the housing estate of Cala Murada we continue to the left, then at a roundabout we keep straight on, the same as at the following roundabout we reach immediately afterwards, walking straight on. A restaurant and a supermarket on our left show us that we're reaching the end of our trip. Passing a bridge over brackish water we reach straight on the sand of Cala Murada.
We can take the same route for the way back, where we'll be surprised by the charm of the landscape and quite different views.
DURATION AND DISTANCE: Duration is the real quick walking time; several stops in order to enjoy the landscape, taking pictures or having a rest have to be added. Is calculated only the way there, back it'll be the same route.
