DESCRIPTION:
On this trip all along the coasts of Felanitx we'd like to show you not only the coastal characteristics of the majorcan Llevant-region, but also to discover you a few untouched and hidden coves that remain there in the area of our township.
DIFFICULTY: Medium.
The obstacles we find at some places are the main problem on this trip. The way over the rocks is difficult and you have to walk with care.
WAY DESCRIPTION:
We start at the beach of Cala Ferrera. Looking to the sea, on the left hand side we find a gate we have to pass through. Immediately after it, on the left, there is a wall we climb and then a path leads us up to a small place with some pine trees. Taking a footpath to the right, we reach the Calò de les Dones (Ladies' cove), called as well Cala Serena.
After crossing the beach we see a few steps. We climb them to reach a street that we follow to the right. After walking about 300 meters we reach a kind of triangular place. From there we must pass through a very narrow gate we see on the right hand side in between two villas, and going on there a few meters we already get on the rocks. On one side there is the cliff of Cala Ferrera and on the other we can make out yet the lighthouse of Portocolom. Over a few steps down we get to the sea where we can have a look at the so-called Cova des Coloms (pigeon-cave).
Over the rocks and at a distance of approximately 500 meters, we reach a place where it looks as if we couldn't go any further. If we actually want to go on we have to climb again over a low wall or a fence, and this way we get into a garden-zone. Perhaps it might not be quite appropriate, but it is the only possibility to be able to continue.
We walk on over the rocks, now more grown over with bushes, and there are less houses. After five minutes we can already see Cala Mitjana in front of us. We follow the small inlets of the sea and reach a garden-zone. In order to get to the cove we enter it over a few steps. This way, through the garden, we come to a mast which marks the entrance of the bay.
Keeping on along the coast, after about 300 meters we come to a wind-hole and next to it the ruins of a watchhouse that reminds us how difficult survival was for our predecessors. When we arrive to Cala Sa Nau we see the natural perforated ledge that locks the entrance of the bay. Just before we reach the cove, we should get off a few meters to the left, in order to visit a prehistoric cave which is worthwhile seeing.
Cala Sa Nau is actually halfway of our trip. At some places of the cove the sea is very cold as there is a well springing from under the boathouse at the beach.
We continue along the coast and after a few minutes we come to another watchhouse. When we look at the cliffs we see some cuts in the rock, originated by working the stone which was used for construction and transported by ship. The way leads us across stony terrain up to Cala Estreta.
We walk further, past another watchhouse, and without any difficulties we come to Cala Brafi. A strange boathouse, now abandoned and dilapidated, dominates the cove. If we cross the beach and climb some way up the rocks, we find a path which leads us along a stone-wall. We follow it until we get to Cala Marçal. On our way we see the cliff Faralló d'en Fred to our right.
